Yeah Inception was good and all…

but this…

Might be the best movie I’ve seen all year. Robert Duvall is spellbinding. Sissy Spacek is great and Bill Murray can somehow make the smallest things hilarious. I laughed and I cried. Robert Duvall is going to get an oscar nomination for this. And I feel like the move has a good shot at best picture as well.

Guys seriously, make the effort to see this. It’s so well done and so worth it.

This is a great mix albeit with shortcomings. Panama would work way better to kick the whole thing off rather than being a spike in the denouement. Crosby Stills and Nash feel really dated here and the Led Zepplin feels too heavy. But using a Beck backbone with Wilco and Spoon really makes this a fun disk that I’m still listening to in my car.

You may notice I broke a lot of the rules that I previously mentioned for Summer Jam CD’s and that’s because this CD warranted a good portion of those rules. As it’s not a great SJ mix. Sometimes working within boundaries helps make things great.

Sure there are some great songs here but there’s no cohesion and the mix is terrible (two laid back rap songs next to each other? psh. Two songs out of 11 are the Bees) The Jimmy Buffet song seems more fucked out than about summer and Chromeo is incredibly polarizing. Also Panic at the Disco was a little too popular and current at the time.

Out of this disc however Sunshine by Atmosphere would emerge as a staple, a pillar of the summer jam.

Either way, I’d do way better next year all around. 2009 Tracklist coming soon with 2010’s brand new summer jam to follow.
